Easter Eggs in Pixar’s Short Film Collection - Volume 1
If you happen to own the Pixar Short Films Collection - Volume 1, then you might be happy to hear that there are additional features to unlock on the DVD: three interesting easter eggs.
- On the film selection screen with the film stripes, navigate the cursor below the icon of the film “Boundin’”. A lamp icon appears. Click it an you will see an exclusive black and white “pencil” test, a wireframe-version of the short “Luxo Jr.“.
- Navigate to the Audio Options screen. With the cursor, go above the tab “English for the Hearing Impaired” and reveal a hidden icon for the film “Beach Chair“. The test short “Beach Chair” was made by Eben Ostby, the 3D Visual Effects supervisor on the early Pixar shorts to finetune some rendering features of the newly developed 3D software.
- The third easter egg, the short film “Flags and Waves” is also accessible from the Audio Options menu: press the <right> button when the “English” tab is highlighted to reveal the icon to start the film.
The eggs can also be found on the Blue-Ray version of the Collection: It may be that the access is a bit different - try using the <up> and <down> arrows on the otherwise horizontally orientated film selection menu to discover the hidden icons.
